For most business apps we recommend cross-platform. We recommend native when the product genuinely depends on it, and a web app when an app store listing adds nothing.

AI and mobile

What AI changes for app users, and for the team building the app

Users now expect apps to understand them a little. Search that copes with vague queries, a camera that reads a receipt or a serial number, voice notes turned into structured records, and help that answers before a human is needed. These features are practical to add today, but each raises questions about latency on mobile networks, what runs on the device versus a server, and what personal data leaves the phone.

On the build side, AI-native engineering matters even more for mobile than for web. There are more screen sizes, two operating systems and a long tail of device-specific bugs. How much does it cost to develop a mobile app?

Cost depends on platforms, the backend the app needs, integrations and features like offline sync or payments. Cross-platform apps are usually cheaper than two native apps, and AI-native teams typically need fewer engineer-hours than traditional ones. Should I build a native or cross-platform app?

For most business and consumer apps, cross-platform frameworks such as React Native or Flutter give a near-native experience from one codebase at lower cost. Native makes sense for performance-critical apps, heavy use of device hardware, or when you need the newest platform features the day they ship.

Can AI features run on the phone instead of the cloud?

Some can. Smaller models for text recognition, image classification and basic transcription run well on modern phones, which helps privacy and offline use. Larger language model features usually still run on a server, so the design question is which parts need to be instant, private or available offline.

Do you use AI to build mobile apps?

Do I actually need a mobile app?
